50 years and counting...
1970s
Where it started. Mike Nasser opens Avalon Salon in Calgary with one aim: exceptional haircare for the people of this city. The salon begins styling pageant contestants, a tradition that has carried on ever since.
2012
Calgary’s choice. Avalon is named best salon in Calgary at the People’s Hair Choice Awards.
2013
Miss Universe Canada. Avalon sponsors and styles Calgary’s own Riza Santos, winner of Miss Universe Canada, on her way to Miss Universe.
2016 to 2018
Three in a row. Owner Hassan Nasser wins the American Crew All-Star Challenge, the world’s largest men’s hair competition, in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The first three-time consecutive winner in its history.
Today
Same chair-side care. Over 50 years on, Avalon is at 1516 11 St SW, a few minutes from downtown Calgary. Work shown in Spain, France, Belgium, England and Italy, and still a cup of Middle Eastern tea for everyone who sits down.
